Elgin Pre-school

A new, modern logo, brand guidelines and website to elevate their digital presence and provide a seamless online experience for current and prospective parents.

The brief

With a history spanning over 50 years, Elgin Pre-school have seen generations of the same families come and go at their London-based pre-school.

With warmth and a ‘home-from-home’ atmosphere at the heart of Elgin’s ethos, the new brand identity needed to bridge two approaches: it had to be playful and engaging for children, yet trusted and professional for parents.

The chosen logo features a combination of rainbows and stars to communicate growth, inclusivity, and wonder. The characterful Google font ‘Capriola’ combined with the rounded ‘Quicksand’ font work effectively together to create a friendly, approachable aesthetic.

Establishing a UI toolkit

After establishing the logo, we continued to develop and refine the colour palette, font usage and graphical textures to create a complimentary UI toolkit base for the website.

A playful combination of iconography, hand-drawn illustrations and shapes were heavily used throughout the design.

Guiding Elgin Pre-school every step of the website process

As well as a UI toolkit, we supported Elgin through each step of the web building process to create a responsive, modern, WordPress page builder site.

A strong website presence is nothing without its coherent content framework. Working with Elgin, we established a new information architecture that organises content seamlessly for both current families and prospective parents looking to enrol their children.

One of the main focal areas was the ‘Our Childcare’ section, which features core details about the facilities and an inside look at a typical day for a child at Elgin Pre-school. This gives parents peace of mind, leaving them fully informed and reassured that their child will be cared for.

With regularly scheduled remote catch-up calls via Google Meet, we were able to effectively communicate and resolve client feedback to create a high standard that was ready for launch. As part of our standardised process, we conduct thorough pre-launch checks before proceeding with launch.

Improving signage & wayfinding journeys

Beyond optimising Elgin’s digital user experience, we also enhanced their physical customer journey at street level. Tucked away in a secluded corner of the Selborne Centre, the pre-school suffered from low visibility. We designed an intuitive new signage system and a clear visitor map to establish a strong street-level presence, ensuring parents and families could effortlessly navigate from the main road to the front door.
